I am a graphic designer turned plant pathologist studying powdery scab, a tuber blemish disease that causes significant losses in the potato industry. This disease is caused by Spongospora subterrenea f. sp. subterrenea and is a vector of Potato Mop Top Virus (PMTV), which causes end of season losses. Our project uses culture-free methods to study soil microbes associated with disease suppression. By identifying factors and practices for powdery scab control, we aim to engage growers and promote a sustainable future in the potato industry.
